NEWS: Out of the 89 species detected by camera traps in Virachey National Park, about 19 are categorised as globally threatened on the IUCN Red List, according to a new biodiversity survey report released recently. Among them, there are 3 critically endangered, 3 endangered and 13 vulnerable. Moreover, 5 other species are near threatened.

Notable species included the critically endangered large-antlered muntjac Muntiacus vuquangensis, an elusive species endemic to the Annamites. These records included the first known image of a juvenile.

Other significant threatened species recorded included red-shanked douc langur Pygathrix nemaeus, gaur Bos gaurus, dhole Cuon alpinus, clouded leopard Neofelis nebulosa, Asiatic black bear Ursus thibethanus, Malayan sun bear Helarctos malayanus, Sunda pangolin Manis javanica and the ground-dwelling Germain’s peacock-pheasant Polyplectron germaini.

This information is based on 33,800 camera trap images. A total of 7,209 independent events were recorded. Of these records, 2,591 could not be identified beyond family and were excluded from the species richness calculations.

The remaining 4,618 records were comprised of 89 species: 41 mammals, 46 bird and 2 reptile species. A further 4 genera were detected and included in richness estimates that could not be identified to species level 2 birds and 2 mammals. Species richness varied between camera stations, from 2 to 31 species recorded.

Virachey National Park is a relatively understudied protected area in Northeast Cambodia, within the Siem Pang district, Stung Treng province, and Veun Sai, Taveng and Andong Meas districts in Rattanakiri province.

As a south-western extension of the Annamite Mountain range, the park is a key habitat for endemic flora and fauna not found in wider Cambodia, and despite relatively high levels of historic logging, remains a key biodiversity refuge. The park represents one of only two ASEAN Heritage Parks in the country.

Virachey National Park was established in 1993 by a Royal Decree, encompassing 332,500 ha. A subsequent contiguous Biodiversity Conservation Corridor was established by a Sub-Decree in 2018. In July 2023, likewise by Sub-Decree, the corridor was rezoned into Virachey National Park and is now part of the park, increasing the protected area to 405,766 ha.

A number of Indigenous groups live in and around the park including the Brao, Kavet, Kreung, Jarai and Kachork minorities, numbering approximately 35,000 people.

NEWS: H.E. SUON Prasith, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the World Trade Organisation and other international organisations (Economy and Trade) in Geneva, in his capacity as the outgoing Chair of the Group of 77 and China (Geneva Chapter), has officially handed over the chairmanship to Mr. Cristóbal MELGAR PAZOS, Chargé d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of Peru, for the 2025 mandate.

The official handover ceremony, taking place in Geneva, Switzerland on Jan. 28, was also attended by Mr. Pedro Manuel Moreno, Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD, representing Ms. Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of UNCTAD, along with members of the Group of 77 and China.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, the Group of 77 and China is the largest negotiating group within the United Nations system, currently comprising 134 member countries. The Cambodian delegation assumed the duties of Vice-Chair of the Group of 77 and China (Geneva Chapter) on Nov. 23, 2022 and took over the chairmanship on Jan. 30, 2024. During its tenure, the Cambodian delegation represented the Group in approximately 95 meetings and negotiations, including facilitating the Group’s inputs into discussions at the United Nations in New York.

Additionally, it led discussions and established three working groups: the Working Group on Digital Economy and Digitalisation for Development, the Working Group on Financing for Development, and the Working Group on Climate Change, Trade, and Sustainable Development.

Moreover, the Cambodian delegation successfully coordinated the 60th anniversary of the Group’s establishment on Sept. 13, 2024, organising high-level dialogues, adopting a joint ambassadorial statement, and issuing a press release. In preparation for the UNCTAD XVI Ministerial Conference scheduled for October 2025, Cambodia also led and coordinated internal discussions and negotiations to establish a common position for participation in the conference negotiations.

On this occasion, the Deputy Secretary-General expressed his appreciation and recognition of the Cambodian delegation for its visionary leadership and commitment. He also reaffirmed his support for the Group in the upcoming Ministerial Conference negotiations and its dedication to upholding multilateralism for trade and development.

In addition to the commitment of the incoming Chair from the Peruvian delegation, coordinators from various regional groups—including the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), the Asia-Pacific Group (APG), the Group of Latin American and Caribbean Countries (GRULAC), the Arab Group, and the Small Island Developing States (SIDS)—as well as many other member states, participated in the event. They delivered remarks praising and highly appreciating the Cambodian delegation’s leadership of the Group of 77 and China. Despite Cambodia’s status as a least-developed country, it successfully led the Group to many remarkable achievements and outcomes during its term.

金边市市长坤盛于1月29日下午主持会议，就大型夜市步行街项目试运行事宜进行磋商。旅游部及相关部门代表应邀参加会议。

坤盛市长介绍，金边市府早于2019年启动规划上述大型夜市步行街项目，但由于疫情和预算等因素影响而延缓至今。市政府已采取有效措施克服挑战，确保项目顺利实施。此项目旨在缓解城市交通拥堵，提升城市形象，并吸引更多游客前往金边。

他强调，市府将从2月1日起启动该项目的第一阶段，开放时间为每周六和周日，从傍晚6点至晚上11点，期间禁止车辆通行。步行街将打造优美的绿地环境，配备色彩缤纷的花园、公共厕所及临时停车场等配套设施。项目规划包含商店、餐馆、酒店和酒吧等多种业态。

根据政府公布的初步总体规划图，该步行街项目总占地面积约57公顷，划分为三个区域：第一区域（3.3公顷）： 位于塔仔山附近，柬埔寨邮政局前方，北至94号路，南至106号路，西至13号路，东至施梳越大道。 该区域主要规划为商店和美食街。

第二区域（20.7公顷）： 北至106号路，南至184号路，西至13号路，东至施梳越大道。 该区域将打造为夜生活娱乐中心，规划为酒吧街。

第三区域（34公顷）： 靠近王宫和波东寺公园，北至184号路，南至西哈努克大道，西至7号路，东至施梳越大道。 该区域将作为休闲区域进行规划。

金边市政府相信，该项目的建成将极大提升金边的城市魅力，为市民和游客提供一个全新的休闲娱乐空间，并促进当地经济发展。

本网报道：柬埔寨西哈莫尼国王签发《王令》，明确规定最高法院的法官人数不得超过30人。此限制包括最高法院的院长和副院长在内。

《王令》还强调，最高法院和洪玛奈总理自签发日起负责执行该王令。
